Things are Not as We Were Taught – Part 2

Introduction

Our last study brought truth by answering three questions regarding religious myths. This study picks up where the last one left off, starting with a fourth question. In review, we saw from the Word that there is only one archangel, Michael. And that Michael is another name for the Lord Jesus Christ. We also dealt with the deeply ingrained religious myth that “Lucifer” is a name of Satan. Instead, “Lucifer” is not a proper name at all, but a description of a man, (and those of that man, from that man, and found in that man). It is not a name or description of the Devil, but a description of the nature of Adam, who was first glorious but then fell.

Now we move along to explore several other common misconceptions. We’ll iron the wrinkles out of them by using the Word.

4. Is Satan an Angel of Light?…or was he ever an Angel of Light?
No. He was a murderer from the beginning. He always hated the truth. And he was
a liar from the beginning.

“44. For you are the children of your father THE DEVIL, and you love to do the evil things he does. He WAS A MURDERER FROM THE BEGINNING. He has ALWAYS HATED THE TRUTH, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for HE IS A LIAR and the father of lies.”

John 8:44 New Living Translation (NLT)

Satan’s character has never changed. God created him the way that he has always been (Isaiah 45:7). Satan was created that way for a purpose, (Colossians 1:16, 17). The purpose is nearing completion. The idea that Satan was once an angel of light comes from misreading the following verse:

“12. But I [Paul] will persist in the same line of conduct in order to cut the ground from under the feet of those who desire an opportunity of getting themselves recognized as being on a level with us in the matters about which they boast. 13. For men of this stamp are sham apostles, dishonest workmen, assuming the garb of Apostles of Christ. 14. And no wonder. SATAN, THEIR MASTER, CAN DISGUISE HIMSELF AS AN ANGEL OF LIGHT. 15. It is therefore no great thing for HIS SERVANTS ALSO TO DISGUISE THEMSELVES AS SERVANTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS.

[Note that Satan disguising himself as a godly thing is mentioned in regards to the religious realm where people often do the same thing when in Satan’s nature].

Their end will be in accordance with their actions.”

2 Corinthians 11:12-15 Weymouth New Testament, (WNT)

Satan easily orchestrates religious works of the flesh whenever people are moving in their carnal minds and not in the mind of Christ. This facade can be “seen through” when one has the mind of Christ. Christ will alert us when there is a form of godliness that lacks the life of the Son of God. Religion with its works denies the power of Christ, substituting another spirit in disguise. This disguise is typically the “instead-of-Christ” spirit. To have the mind of Christ one must also have the Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit, as given at Pentecost. Without the mind of Christ we would tend to judge by outer appearances‚ and we would often be wrong. It is not the visible form that is so important as the spirit behind it. Satan is not and never was an angel of light, but he can disguise himself to look good to the carnal mind. That is his territory. His dominion is the realm of darkness, (for he feeds on the dust of the flesh-nature). This counterfeit is “instead-of-Christ”. It is the spirit force behind the knowledge of good & evil when one is apart from the Tree of Life, Christ.

5. When Jesus saw Satan fall as lightning from heaven, didn’t that indicate a fall from a higher place…an anointed position?
No. To see what really happened we’ll look at that verse in context.

“16. HE WHO HEARS YOU HEARS ME, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
17. Then the seventy
[“72” in many versions] returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” 18. And He said to them, “I SAW SATAN FALL LIKE LIGHTNING FROM HEAVEN. 19. BEHOLD, I GIVE YOU THE AUTHORITY to trample on serpents and scorpions [devils], and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather REJOICE BECAUSE YOUR NAMES ARE WRITTEN IN HEAVEN.”

Luke 10:16-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

Another way to say this key phrase is, “I saw the power of Satan cast out of the people that you 70 ministered to. I saw this happen quickly, as fast as lightning is cast out of heaven.” Satan was not in an anointed position in heaven. He was never a “light-bearer”. There is no scripture to support such a fantasy. The demonic powers of Satan were ruling in the people to which the 70 ministered the delivering power of Christ. The 70 had the power of Christ because they were found in Christ and it was the Spirit of Christ operating through them. Jesus was saying that without being present in His body, He was there in Spirit. It was His Holy Spirit that did the work of deliverence. Jesus knew that the demons would have to obey those 70 who were found in His nature…His Spirit.

For further explanation that this is the correct interpretation, see the footnote to Isaiah 14:12in the Amplified Bible, (not copied here due to its length). That footnote also helps to clarify the true meaning of Luke 10:17 above. At the same time it sheds light on question three (“Lucifer”), found in Part 1 of this study. Verse 17 above in context is merely an acknowledgment by Jesus to the 70 disciples that Satan cannot remain when the mind of Christ is ruling, (which is why the demons obeyed them). Jesus could see that happening without being there in person for He was present in Spirit. He also knew that the disciples would work within His Spirit and authority. And that when they did, then things would happen suddenly & powerfully.

6. Isn’t Satan the anointed Cherub mentioned in Ezekiel?
No. We will discover the treasure of much truth hidden here! Beautiful overlaying patterns blossom as we examine the true meanings of that reference below:

“11. The word of the LORD came to me [Ezekiel]: 12. ‘Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre

[…a coastal city somewhat comparable to New York City of today in that it was known for its material wealth from merchandising with the nations. Tyre was also known for its spiritual poverty. In this regard note that Tyre was Jezebel’s home town.]

and say to him: “This is what the Sovereign LORD says: ‘You [king of Tyre] were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

[So here, like in Isaiah 14:12 there is also a jump to a much bigger picture being presented, and again it is a comparison of an earthly king to Adam. The point is that the message is a warning to all others who are found in Adam. It is a parallel warning (a second witness) to the first example…the King of Babylon, (from Isaiah 14). The ways of both kings were like Adam, bright & shining in splendor at one time, above all others…as noticeable as the skyscrapers in a city. But they embraced pride (as did Adam), and so they ended in death. This passage is a warning of the wrong way…the way where “the bridge is out”.]

13. You were in Eden, the garden of God;

[this is looking like it is pointing to Adam already as the root of the problem]

every precious stone adorned you:

[that could adorn you as a free gift]

carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,
topaz, onyx and jasper,
lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.

Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared.
14 . YOU WERE ANOINTED AS A GUARDIAN CHERUB, for so I ordained you.

[…anointed to be like a cherub. A cherub is one that watches over, therefore he was ordained/called to take care of the garden…to have the garden of his life (soul), developed into the nature of Christ where it could bring forth fruit in the natural & in the spirit to the Father]

You were on the holy mount of God:

[in His presence]

you walked among the fiery stones

[the nine stones mentioned in verse 13 that were on the outside of & all about him].

15. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you.

[This leaves out Satan as a possibility for we already established from the Word that Satan was a murderer and hater of truth and a liar from the beginning…far from blameless!]

16. Through your widespread trade

[trading the truth for a lie]

you were filled with violence,

[the way of the flesh nature]

and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,

[presence/kingdom]

and I expelled you,

[you who had the calling of a… (from verse 14)]

guardian cherub,

[which was the calling of Adam, (established in verse 13). Adam’s anointing was to care/tend/watch over Eden (Genesis 2:15) where the fiery stones were, as men-tioned in verse 13 above].

17. Your heart [King of Tyre] became proud on account of your beauty,

[thought too much of yourself as did Adam]

and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth;

[let you be immersed in that lower realm]

I made a spectacle of you

[King of Tyre and all others found in Adam]

before other kings.

[as an example to others who were “kings” of Adam…running their own lives]

18. By your many sins and dishonest trade [greed] you have desecrated your sanctuaries

[wherever you lived].

So I made a fire come out from you,

[drew you on in your self-destructive ways, (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12)],

and it

[the way of Adam] ‘

consumed you, and I reduced you to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching.

[as an example of warning to them, but note that not all were paying attention!]

19. All the nations who knew you are appalled at you; you

[King of Tyre]

have come to a horrible end [death] and will be no more.”

[only those in Christ, the last Adam will receive the life of God].”

Ezekiel 28:11-19 New International Version (NIV)

Some may say that a cherub is not a man, but it just says that the man (Adam) was anointed AS a guardian cherub (verse 14), not that he was one. The classic example of a cherub is seen in each of the winged beings on either side of the mercy seat. Each one faithfully watching over it…as faithful as an ox in his service, which is how the word “cherub‚” is translated in Ezekiel 10:14 in the New Living Translation. Adam had the same degree of anointing as the cherubs watching over the mercy seat.

So in conclusion, Satan is clearly not the one like an anointed cherub that this scripture refers to. The reference is to Adam and all of those found in Adam, like the king of Tyre.

7. But men cannot walk on stones of fire. What are the “stones of fire”?

First we note from verse 14 that the man walked AMONG stones of fire, not on them. And in verse 13 we see that the stones of fire adorned him. The Hebrew word for “adorned” here means “covered, in the sense of protected”. These nine stones of fire that adorned Adam were an expression of God Himself since God is a consuming fire, (Hebrews 12:29). The blazing glory & nature of God was all around Adam for they had fellowship together.

God’s nature shielded/protected Adam from deception as long as Adam stayed under this covering. Yet this covering of 9-stones was not a complete expression of the character & nature of God. There were three stones missing. Adam had all of the stones that were freely available at the time. These nine stones were free gifts prepared for Adam on the day that he was created, (verse 13), but there were three missing stones. These three missing stones were not free gifts. They needed to be acquired by Adam. And Adam had to go to a difficult place to get them…just as Jesus had to be tested in the wildernesss.

8. How do we know that there were three missing stones of fire?

Or in other words, how do we know that the nine stones of fire were not a complete adornment? What makes us think that 12 stones are needed to complete the adornment? Well, we find that a complete adornment would be the adornment of the High Priest, the breastplate of twelve stones…a brilliant glory shining from his heart.

Each of these stones were set in gold. Gold represents the nature of God…for where He dwells (His presence), is represented by the Ark of the Tabernacle, which is covered inside & outside with gold…the metal that will not corrode…the incorruptible one. This tells us again that each of the 12 stones reflects a different facet of the character of God. The stones of the breastplate and the stones-of-fire are not all exactly the same stones in some translations. This is partly because the names of the stones also vary a bit from one original manuscript to another…and the names of some stones have changed over time. However, I believe that a careful, detailed study will reveal that they are the same or very similar stones…and that they compare well with the stones mentioned in other places.

9. What are the three missing stones of fire?

They were jacinth, agate, & amethyst…all stones of the third row of the breastplate, (Exodus 28:15-21 & 39:8-14). “Jacinth” is also translated as “ligure” in the KJV, as “opal” in the YLT, and as “amber” in a few other translations. Let’s refer to it as “amber” to make it easier to remember along with the other two stones. All 3-stones ranged in color from orange/red (like fire), to a light gold. We’ll see the importance of these 3-stones later.

10. Of what significance are these three missing stones?

To understand their significance we first need the background of the “big picture”. So far we have seen that in the beginning Adam was adorned with 9-stones representing nine out of twelve attributes of God. But here is a sketch of that bigger picture.

Adam was created to be in the image of God, with the mind & heart of God.
Adam was to multiply and fill the earth.
Adam was to have dominion over all of creation.
Adam was created to be where God would dwell and through whom God would express His dominion over creation.
The government of God with His full nature was to be expressed in the natural through this newly created man.

The glory of God was to fill man and all mankind. It was to be through them that the knowledge of the glory of God would fill the earth. This was all very good. But then God took this “very good” Adam creation (who like God was Spirit, and in whom was both male & female), and lowered him into an earthly form with a flesh body. Then this earthly body was fractured into a separate earthly body for the female component of himself. In this lowered, fractured condition Adam (along with an incomplete covering…an incomplete adornment), would fail in his mission…and fail he did. When Adam was given instruction to rule over all of the earth, that included his own earthly mind & nature. Of course, he needed God’s help from within to do that. Adam naturally failed because he trusted the earthly, natural, carnal mind of the flesh body instead of God’s Spirit. Yet later we will see that his failure was all part of the original plan.

Much later the Word of God (which displayed the character & nature of God), was given to the nation of the 12 tribes of Israel under Moses. But they too failed to fulfill their calling to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of God. They failed in their calling to be a nation of priests who would be the interface between the creation of the natural realm (earth), and God in the spiritual realm, (heaven). The failed to be the Light of a higher realm to bring hope & His Life to a lower realm.

After that, the Word & the Spirit of God were given with nine fruit of the Spirit to “the church”, but they too failed in their calling to fill the earth with the knowledge of the glory of God. Like Adam, and like the nation of Israel, they too seemed to have a good start, but they all had the leaven of the carnal mind which took over and left them all corrupt with the ways of man. And so “the Church Age” too is passing away…as did the once-righteous nation of Israel before them.

Now God is ushering in a new age. It is not the age of the Word. It is not the age of the Word raised up to the level of the Spirit. It is the age of the Spirit being raised up to the level of the Life of Christ within a people. These people truly are pressing on to walk fully in the mind of Christ (knowing what He would have them do), and in the heart of God (wanting to do it). They are the true New Covenant Bride of Christ mentioned in both Jeremiah 31:33 & Hebrews 8:10. They are destined to succeed. They are the ones who will walk in the full adornment of the Life of Christ. Through these overcomers God’s nature will rule upon the earth both from within them and then through them. We are now well into the transition of His government…His kingdom…His Life dwelling fully in a people upon the earth.

We review all of that to say this: So in the beginning we see Adam losing the Tree of Life, (Christ). But then in the end we see the Bride of Christ, gloriously one with Him, fully in His maturity, and resurrected in Him to rule the creation as His government…in His full character & nature. Like Adam, she is adorned with a covering and calling. But unlike Adam she is fully adorned by and for her husband, Christ Jesus the Head. Yet she has had an active part in the completion of this adornment for full union with Him, as His Body.

“9 …for you have stripped off the old self with its doings, 10. and HAVE CLOTHED [adorned] YOURSELVES WITH THE NEW SELF which is being remoulded into FULL KNOWLEDGE SO AS TO BECOME LIKE HIM who created it.”

Colossians 3:9,10 (WNT)

That is the significance of the three missing stones. They complete the adornment so that God’s full character & nature may rule fully with His mind within a mankind in His image upon the earth.

“1. Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. 2. Then I, John, saw THE HOLY CITY, NEW JERUSALEM, coming down out of heaven from God, PREPARED AS A BRIDE ADORNED FOR HER HUSBAND. 3. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and HE WILL DWELL WITH[within] THEM, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.”

Revelation 21:1-3 (NKJV)

10. Which attributes of God do the three missing stones represent?

To answer this we must take a closer look at the adornment of the Bride. We see this plainly in the New Jerusalem city (as seen in Revelation 21). The New Jerusalem is not a literal city but rather a symbol of her.

So how is she adorned? The Greek word for “adorned” (Strong’s #2885), means “to put in proper order). She is adorned externally where His Light is seen. She is also adorned within, which is where the light comes from, for His throne is within her. This inner adornment is only experienced fully when one enters in to become a part of this city, (her). She is adorned with 12 gates, each of which represents a tribe of Israel, (verse 12). And she is adorned with walls that have 12 foundation stones. Each foundation stone represents one of the apostles, (verse 14). And the Tree of Life with its 12-fruits is within her, (Revelation 22:2). There is a proper order to each of these 12 parts.

She is adorned in her mind & heart with her covering, her husband Christ. The final adornments of His nature are acquired by the Bride by grace through faith to complete her adornment…to fill her lamp with the oil of the fullness of His Holy Spirit. All of these patterns of 12 parts overlay each other, giving insight and confirmation that a complete adornment is found with the complete nature of Christ. This complete nature is not found in 9-stones-of-fire, but in 12.

There is much hidden truth in all of these patterns of “12”, but for now we will focus just on the 12-fruit of the Tree of Life.

“1. Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2. down the middle of the great street of the city [New Jerusalem]. On each side of the river stood THE TREE OF LIFE, BEARING TWELVE CROPS OF FRUIT, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”

Revelation 22:1,2 (NIV)

Nine of these types of fruit are identified in Galatians 5:22. We know that at Pentecost we can freely walk in 9-fruits of the Holy Spirit. But there are three more fruits since there are a total of 12 different kinds of fruit in Christ. The Tree of Life produces these 12 types of fruit (of the Spirit), each in its time. The point here is that like the stones of fire, 9 fruit are freely given, but three more must be obtained to eat fully of the Tree of Life. Note also that there is just one Tree of Life found on one side of the river of life coming from the throne, while just one other Tree of Life is found on the other side of the river of life. There is only one Tree of Life but it is seen in two different locations at the same time. How can this be? Well, the Tree of Life is Christ. One side is the Head, and the other is the Body. They are both Christ, but each is in a different position. This is also explained as the glory of the Father given twice, (once to Christ the Head, (John 12:28), and then a 2nd time to Christ the Body, (2Thessalonians 1:10). It is the same glory, but seen in two places. One glory is seen in the Last Adam, Christ Jesus. The other glory is seen in those who are found in Him. The purpose in this is that we may all be one in Him, (John 17:22).

So in summary we see that the three missing stones of fire are also seen as three missing fruit of the Spirit. They are attributes of the nature of God beyond those identified as the 9-fruit of the Spirit that are a free gift. These three missing attributes of God must be acquired through testing, trials, and growth into the mind of Christ. These 3-fruit are not free, but they are available to be obtained in Christ.

11. What are the three missing fruits of the Spirit of Christ?

These verses below confirm that “righteousness” is one of the missing fruits…and that it is an exchange of garments…something that we must do. We must “put it on”, which is another way of saying that we must change our ways. This can only be done when in the mind of Christ…by grace through faith.

“18. and the FRUIT OF THE RIGHTEOUSNESS in peace is sown to those making peace. “

James 3:18 Young’s Literal Translation (YLT)

“8. And to her was granted THAT SHE SHOULD BE ARRAYED [adorn herself] in fine linen, clean and white: FOR THE FINE LINEN IS THE RIGHTEOUSNESS of saints.”

Revelation 19:8 King James Version (KJV)

“14 …”They are those,” he said, “who have just passed through the great distress, and HAVE WASHED THEIR ROBES AND MADE THEM WHITE [in righteousness] in the blood of the Lamb.”

Revelation 7:14 (WEY)

Righteousness is also seen both as a part of a breastplate (Ephesians 6:14…this is a big clue in the Spirit that it is one of the missing stones), and as a crown, (2Timothy 4:8). They work together. As a crown it is a mind-set that guards one’s heart from deception…so that one might make the right decision. It’s importance comes with experience in training & through battle. Seeking to do the right thing in every situation is seeking righteousness. This walk often involves making painful choices. It is not the natural way to go. It is not the way of Adam. It is the way of picking up our cross to continue to follow the Lamb wherever He goes. It is the way of the flaming sword to the Tree of Life. God loves those who seek righteousness…those who walk this way.

The other two missing stones/fruit are not uncovered as easily. However, it seems that another missing stone/fruit is “holiness” for without holiness no one will see the Lord, (see Ephesians 4:24 & Hebrews 12:14). Several verses pair “holiness” with “righteousness like two brothers…like “Ephraim & Manasseh” and like “James & John”. Holiness is separation (from the old flesh nature), to God. This separation is not done in a religious way, but in righteousness…as part of His life coming forth from within. This separation of holiness is what sanctification means. It is the meaning of consecration. Holiness does not mean a “holier-than-though-attitude”. Holiness reminds us of faithfulness, but it is not faithfulness. Holiness is the expression of a deep heart-devotion, which is only evident after being tested as to whether or not loyalty will be split elsewhere. Sometimes holiness is translated as “piety”. Holiness is the attribute of being so set apart and devoted to God’s leading that one is as a slave that is happy to hear & obey their master, God. Holiness is developed as one walks on in God…as one leaves the carnal mind behind to move on into the mind of Christ. It is a key way to come into the full stature of Christ. It is seen when one thanks Him in all things. It is the highway to Him.

“22 But now having been set free from sin, and having BECOME SLAVES OF GOD, you have your FRUIT TO HOLINESS, and the end, everlasting life.”

Romans 6:22 (NKJV)

The last missing stone/fruit I see to be humility/humbleness/lowliness.

“12. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, CLOTHE YOURSELVES WITH compassion, kindness, HUMILITY, gentleness and patience.”

Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

Another verse that associates humility with other fruit of the Spirit is Ephesians 4:2. Some translations use the word “lowliness” instead of “humility”. They are the same, along with “humbleness”. We do not however want to confuse “meekness” with “lowliness”. “Meekness” is “gentleness” in the Greek, while “lowliness” is “humility”. They are similar is some aspects, yet clearly different fruit. In lowliness is the principle that there must be a descending (putting off) before there can be an ascension (putting on). It is the attribute that calmly shines when one is victorious to stay in Christ under certain testings. These testings come when one is taken advantage of, unjustly blamed, ridiculed, mocked, overlooked, unappreciated, and ignored. This fruit only ripens with much practice of being in Christ. It can be a painful process for the Adam nature.

These three missing fruits…these stones of fire…are not something that we are given when we go to heaven. They are to be appropriated through trials while we are in these mortal bodies in this lower realm. The goal is to enter into the fullness of Christ NOW…into that higher realm NOW, so that “heaven” can come to earth…in and through us! This lowliness seems like a descension but it is really an ascension up into Christ before his life can then descend to be seen in a people, (For more on this see Jackie Caporaso’s study No. 283).

The verses on these three missing fruit will often include some of the other fruit. That is because they are all found on the same tree.

12. How does all of this fit together?

Adam was adorned with 9-stones of fire that were free gifts from God. They represented aspects of the nature of God. But three more stones of fire, (His nature) needed to be acquired through testings & trials. Both a fallen world and an earthly nature were needed for Adam to be tested. So Adam was formed of the earth, split, and they were sent out of the garden to acquire the other three stones. They could only be acquired by testing as Jesus was tested in the wilderness (in 3-areas)…as the 2nd goat was led through the wilderness by the fit man of the Holy Spirit to be tested by the Devil. Jesus was victorious and then returned (from His testings), in the full adornment of the life of the Father. Jesus had chosen lowliness, righteousness, (making decisions God’s way), and holiness, (separation from the world systems, flesh nature & the Devil). Jesus was tested severely to see if he really wanted to pay the price for these missing stones of fire. His choices were NOT between good & evil. His choices werre between the Tre of Knowledge and the Tree of Life. That too is our choice. The way of man, or the way of God. In every case Jesus was proven to put the serpent nature on a pole…and in every case Jesus proved at great cost that he loved the Father more than the ways of Adam. The way of the cross is the way to gain the full adornment of the Father.

“24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.”

Galatians 5:24 (NLT)

Adam and all of those from him could never obtain these 3-stones of fire without the blood atonement of Jesus & the Holy Spirit. But in Christ (by His Spirit), they can be obtained. This is what the overcomers hear and respond to. These jewels of His nature are obtained by the Overcomers. Together they make up the Bride who gives birth to the Son of His nature. It was the last Adam who acquired the missing stones of fire. Christ was the first to do so and obtain the full adornment of the Father. Christ Jesus is the FIRSTfruit new-creation man to walk in the fullness of the Godhead in a mortal body. And now the Bride of Christ (His Body), is coming forth as the assembly of the Firstfruits (plural) new-creation man!
